STAMFORD, CT (January 2, 2007) - IJS Global Inc., the fast-growing multi-modal freight forwarder, customs broker and non-vessel operating common carrier, said today it has entered the important U.K. freight & logistics market by acquiring majority ownership in London-headquartered Lupprians Cargo Express Limited, one of the country’s leading freight forwarding and logistics companies. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Effective today, Lupprians will be re-branded as IJS Global (UK) Limited, and will offer its clients across the U.K an enhanced worldwide capability by leveraging IJS Global’s extensive and expanding inter-continental infrastructure. Lupprians has offices at London Heathrow, Manchester and Glasgow.
Mike Gillett, who founded Lupprians in 1993, will remain with the re-branded company as CEO, U.K. & Ireland. In addition, Lupprians’ top executives and managers will continue with IJS Global (UK) Limited.
“Lupprians is the ideal partner to support this critical strategic step of linking the U.K. with our growing worldwide network,” said Giorgio Laccona, Chairman and CEO, IJS Global. “Lupprians is already well-positioned throughout the world with an expanding reach across Europe, the Middle East, India and the United States. It has a proven track record of success, and management is as seasoned and as stable as any in the U.K freight & logistics market. Lupprians has a strong exporting presence, which will serve us well as U.K. businesses become increasingly familiar with IJS Global’s capabilities.”
Mike Gillett commented, “The entire management team is extremely excited about the opportunity to join IJS Global and we look forward to participating in the growth of one of the logistics industry’s most dynamic companies. Our knowledge of the U.K. freight & logistics market, combined with IJS Global’s resources and infrastructure, will strengthen our existing customer relationships as well as our value proposition with prospective customers.”
The Lupprians transaction is the latest step in IJS Global’s European expansion strategy. In mid-2006, IJS Global launched operations across continental Europe, the Middle East and Africa in what has been its largest geographic expansion to date. Later in the year, it strengthened its Dutch network through the acquisition of Transfairways BV, a logistics provider specializing in project forwarding.
Sjoerd Van Loon, IJS Global’s CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa, added, “Incorporating Lupprians to our network compliments our fast-growing EMEA operations, and affirms our ability to add quality people and systems to expand our global footprint. 2006 was an exciting and eventful year for our company, and the majority ownership acquisition of Lupprians starts 2007 off on the right foot.”
