STAMFORD, CT (September 8, 2006)—IJS Global, Inc., the fast-growing freight forwarder, customs broker and non-vessel operating common carrier, said today it has established a new company in Sri Lanka and acquired certain freight forwarding assets of Roton Vander (Freighting) Ltd., one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most established logistics providers, for an undisclosed sum.
Under the transaction, all of Roton Vander’s freight forwarding employees will be retained by IJS Global. R.M. Manivannan, Roton Vander’s Director and General Manager, will head the new operation and oversee day-to-day activities. A new company has been established under the name of IJS Global Lanka PTE Ltd.
Founded in 1988, Colombo-based Roton Vander offers a broad range of supply chain management services to importers and exporters doing business in Sri Lanka and across South Asia. The acquisition will provide IJS Global with a firm foothold in the business-friendly region and enable Roton Vander to broaden its service menu across a wider geographic base.
“Roton Vander fits the profile of our ideal partner—strong, seasoned management, a leadership position that has stood the test of time, and a loyal, growing customer base,” said John Gallahan, President and CEO – Asia Pacific and Americas, IJS Global. “With this transaction, we gain local expertise that we can leverage across our expanding global system. We are also extremely pleased that R.M. Manivannan has joined our team. As one of Sri Lanka’s most experienced and respected logistics professionals, he will add enormous value to our operations.”
“The scope and resources of IJS Global will be an ideal complement to our local strength and will enrich our logistics offerings by broadening our market potential,” said Manivannan. “Our current and potential customers will greatly benefit from our enhanced operations and enlarged geographic reach.”
Located at the juncture of east-west trade routes, Sri Lanka is the South Asian hub of trade, investment, communications and financial services. Completed in 2002, the Colombo Freeport provides integrated sea, air and road groupage linked to modern warehousing and distribution facilities. In addition, liberalized trade relations between India and Sri Lanka is expected to result in a free trade region throughout South Asia and create increased opportunities for local and multinational firms based in Sri Lanka to enter the Indian market.
The new operation in Sri Lanka continues IJS Global’s expansion throughout the broad swath of Asia. It operates in China, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Thailand, and recently announced the creation of company-owned operations in Taiwan. IJS Global shortly plans to announce another acquisition in Southeast Asia.
