IJS GLOBAL INC. was formed in 1976 as Inter-Jet Systems, Inc. The first office was in the JFK area of New York and operated as an international freight forwarder and local trucking company. As the company grew it opened offices in Los Angeles (1987), Atlanta (1988) and Miami (1996). Inter-Jet Customhouse Brokers, Inc. was incorporated in 1995. In 1996 Inter-Jet Ocean Transport Inc. was formed to operate as an NVOCC for the expanding ocean business.
In December 2004 Inter-Jet was acquired by Brynwood Partners V LP, changed its name to IJS GLOBAL INC., and adopted a strategic plan to expand the network globally. Since then, offices were opened in the USA in Chicago, Houston, Newark, and Portland, Oregon. In Asia, the company acquired operations in China, Hong Kong (SAR), Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and the Philippines. In Europe, the company acquired operations in Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and United Kingdom and opened offices in Germany and Belgium. In South America, an office was opened in São Paulo, Brazil. In the Middle East, a regional office was opened in Dubai, U.A.E.
In 2006, the company moved its global headquarters to Stamford, CT.
IJS Global Inc. and its close global affiliates are now located in more than 100 countries worldwide.
